Youth in Edina and its surrounding suburbs experience homelessness every day. Yet it is arguably more difficult to escape poverty and homelessness in the suburbs, because people feel pressure to hide their situation, and fewer resources are accessible.
A collaboration of congregations has recognized this gap and has worked to develop housing and support for teens (and families) including 66 West in Edina.
The lead congregational partner is Edina Community Lutheran Church, with strong support from other nearby congregations. Local service providers estimate there are between 200 and 300 youth who are homeless or at risk in the southwestern suburbs and there is little or no supportive housing in the area.
